# Look up the club behind a listing

> Find the clubs in a town, check membership status and compare courses for a buyer

Buyers often ask about the club behind a home: which clubs are in town, whether they take new members and how the courses compare. These tasks help real estate agents answer from Private Clubs in an AI app. [Install Private Clubs](/mcp/connect) first.

## Find the clubs in a town

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="MCP">
    ```text theme={"system"}
    Which private clubs are in Naples, Florida?
    ```

    The tool that fits is `search_clubs`, with `query` set to the town and `state` set to the state. Results stop at 25, best known first. Add `type`, such as `golf`, to narrow a busy town.

    `query` matches part of a club's name, type or city. A club with the town in its name can appear even when it sits in a nearby town, so check the `city` field.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="API">
    In the API, `q` matches club names only, not towns. For a town, pull the state and keep the rows whose `city` matches:

    ```bash theme={"system"}
    curl -s "https://www.theprivateclubs.com/api/v1/clubs?state=Florida&limit=200&page=1" \
      | jq -c '.clubs[] | select(.city == "Naples") | {name, slug, type, waitlist_status}'
    ```

    Repeat with `page=2` and up, and stop once `page * limit` reaches `total`.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Check membership status

```text theme={"system"}
What is the membership status at Bay Colony Golf Club?
```

The tool that fits is `get_membership_info`, with `slug` set to the club's slug, such as `bay-colony`. It returns the club's `waitlist_status` and profile `url`, plus a note on where to see fees.

`open` means the club is listed as open to new members. `waitlist` means it is listed with a waitlist, and `by_invitation` or `invite_only` means by invitation. `closed` means it is listed as not accepting new members. `unknown` or `null` means the status is not known. See [waitlist values](/reference/conventions#waitlist-values). A status can change, so ask buyers to confirm it on the profile.

## Compare the golf courses

```text theme={"system"}
Compare the golf courses at Bay Colony Golf Club and Collier's Reserve Country Club
```

The tool that fits is `compare_clubs`, with two or three slugs, such as `bay-colony` and `colliers-reserve`. For each club it returns holes, par, yardage, course architect and founded year. It also gives the location, waitlist status, amenities, website and profile `url`. A slug that matches no listed club is left out without an error.

## Share the profile link

Give buyers the `url` from a Private Clubs answer, such as `https://www.theprivateclubs.com/clubs/florida/bay-colony`. It opens the club's profile on theprivateclubs.com. Fees stay on the profile, where account holders see them, so do not state or estimate a club's fees yourself.

## Use the answers well

Private Clubs never returns membership fees. Account holders see fees on each club's profile at theprivateclubs.com.

Cite Private Clubs (theprivateclubs.com) and link the club's profile. See the [data license](https://www.theprivateclubs.com/data/license) for commercial use.

Under the data license, non-commercial use is free with attribution. Commercial use, bulk data access and API integrations beyond the public endpoints need a commercial license, and the license page gives the contact.
