# Map clubs by type and region

> Find the clubs of one type in a state before you plan outreach or research

You plan a partnership, a campaign or a piece of research, and you need the clubs of one type in one place. Ask your AI app for a list by type and state. Private Clubs answers from the public directory at theprivateclubs.com, with a profile link for each club.

## What you can ask

* "Which equestrian clubs are listed in Kentucky?" uses `search_clubs`.
* "List the golf clubs in Texas" uses `get_clubs_by_state`.
* "Which ski clubs are there in Colorado?" uses `search_clubs`.

## Run it in your AI app

<Card title="Connect Private Clubs to your AI app" icon="plug" href="/mcp/connect" horizontal>
  Install the Private Clubs MCP server in your AI app. Free, no account or API key needed.
</Card>

Adapt this starting prompt:

```text theme={"system"}
Use the Private Clubs MCP. List the [equestrian] clubs in [Kentucky]. Then
list the [golf] clubs in [Texas]. Then find the [ski] clubs in [Colorado].
Show each list as a table with name, city, type and profile link, and tell
me when a list stops at the tool's limit. Say that fees are on each club's
profile at theprivateclubs.com.
```

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Search one type in one state">
    `search_clubs` fits this ask. Send `state` and `type`:

    ```json theme={"system"}
    {"state": "Kentucky", "type": "equestrian"}
    ```

    It returns up to 25 clubs, best known first, each with a profile `url`. `type` is an exact match on the stored type, so check [club types](/reference/club-types) for the name you need.
  </Step>

  <Step title="List up to 100 clubs in a state">
    `get_clubs_by_state` fits a longer list:

    ```json theme={"system"}
    {"state": "Texas", "type": "golf"}
    ```

    It returns up to 100 clubs, best known first. Golf clubs in Texas reach that limit, so the answer is a partial list. For the full list, use the API with `type` and `state`, paged with `limit=200`, as [Build a list of clubs](/guides/brands-and-creators#pull-a-full-list-with-the-api) shows. The API groups types, so its `golf` also includes clubs stored as `country_club`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search another region">
    `search_clubs` works the same way for any US state or Canadian province:

    ```json theme={"system"}
    {"state": "Colorado", "type": "ski"}
    ```

    Trimmed result from October 2026:

    ```json theme={"system"}
    [
      {
        "name": "Snowmass Mountain Club",
        "city": "Snowmass Village",
        "type": "ski",
        "url": "https://www.theprivateclubs.com/clubs/colorado/snowmass-mountain-club-co"
      },
      {
        "name": "The Alpine Club Telluride",
        "city": "Telluride",
        "type": "ski",
        "url": "https://www.theprivateclubs.com/clubs/colorado/alpine-club-telluride-co"
      },
      {
        "name": "The Sixty Two Society",
        "city": "Vail",
        "type": "ski",
        "url": "https://www.theprivateclubs.com/clubs/colorado/sixty-two-society-co"
      }
    ]
    ```
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What each system did

* Private Clubs returned the listed clubs of the type and state you named, each with a profile link.
* Your AI app chose the tool for each question, built the tables and wrote the answer.

## Before you share

* Fees are not included. Point people to each club's profile, where account holders see fees.
* Listings and waitlist status can change. Check a club's profile before you contact it.
* Cite Private Clubs (theprivateclubs.com) and link the club's profile. See the [data license](https://www.theprivateclubs.com/data/license) for commercial use.
* Under the data license, non-commercial use is free with attribution. Commercial use, bulk data access and API integrations beyond the public endpoints need a commercial license, and the license page gives the contact.
